CHRIS VANDERCOOK
Chris Vandercook has been playing guitar professionally for more than thirty years. He is the leader of the Chris Vandercook Band, a blues/jazz quartet, and has accompanied many of Hawaii’s finest singers, including Azure McCall, Keahi Conjugacion, and Kimberlei Bradford. He is also a music writer who has contributed album notes for Verve Records on classic recordings by Kenny Burrell and Dizzy Gillespie.

Chris has played many different styles of music in his career, and believes all lessons – on guitar, bass, or ukulele -- should be designed with a strong emphasis on fundamentals. He says, “I like to work with each student to find that balance between the things they enjoy doing and the things they will need to do in order to improve. Lessons should be both fun and challenging.”

LUKE TRIMBLE
Luke holds a Bachelor's degree in Classical Guitar from Portland State University. He provides private instruction for students of all ages. Classical, Brazilian, Spanish, Popular, and Folk songs are integrated into weekly lessons. A committed advocate of chamber music for guitar, he continues to promote both the performance and commission of new works for guitar by west coast composers.

JAN SHIMA
Jan is a professional violinist, vocalist and guitarist with a BFA from the University of Michigan. She is an Artist Teaching Partner for the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture & the Arts and has worldwide experience teaching to all age groups. Her recordings were nominated for Hoku Awards and Hawaii Music Awards. Kailua Music School is proud to have such a talented musician on our team.
